In an attempt to improve transit times, trade facilitation and cooperation between member states, East Africa’s Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) has launched the Central Corridor Transport Observatory (CCTO), a system that provides reliable and timely information to policymakers in the region. According to a spokesman, the CCTO aims to assess the efficiency of the logistics chain along the Central Corridor, making the information available at the click of a button. Users will be able to access information on more than 38 indicators grouped into six categories including volumes of transactions, transit times, cost of services, efficiency and productivity, greenhouse gas emissions, and safety. This is one of more than 15 online systems that has been supported by Trade Mark East Africa over the past year in various agencies as part of its contribution to the digitisation agenda. The spokesman said the initiative would not only reduce the costs and time taken to trade, but support efforts for green trade as various issues would be addressed in a timely manner, contributing to less traffic and hence reduction in emissions along the corridor.
