While crude oil trade between South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) remains the mainstay between the two countries, non-oil trade is on the rise, providing “further scope for growth” between the two countries.
UAE Minister of Economy, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, said that non-oil trade had jumped 23% to US$3.2 billion in 2017 from US$ 2.6 billion in 2016. He added that during the first two quarters of 2018, non-oil trade had risen slightly from US$1.1bn to US$1.2 bn compared to the same period last year.
“This is an indication that we can expect further improvement and growth in the non-oil trade for the rest of the year,” said Al Mansouri.
