A strong financial market infrastructure and robust legal framework has entrenched South Africa’s position as the destination of choice for investors in Africa, according to the latest Absa Africa Financial Markets Index.
The Index, produced by the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF), provides a toolkit for countries seeking to strengthen their financial markets infrastructure. It assesses countries according to six pillars which include market depth, access to foreign exchange, tax and regulatory environment, and market transparency. South Africa scored 93 out of 100.
Its closest competitor, Botswana, lags behind with a score of 65.
