Ethiopian Airlines and DHL Global Forwarding are using their partnership to pursue the development of a new logistics joint venture company.
The two entities signed an agreement last week to form DHL-Ethiopian Airlines Logistics Services Limited with the aim of the new company becoming the leading cargo logistics provider in Africa.
“Logistics is key to support Africa’s fast economic growth and industrialization drive. Ethiopian has, therefore, partnered with DHL who has a proven expertise and experience in the logistics sector, with a view to avail the right logistics solutions in terms of cost, time and quality,” said Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Tewolde GebreMariam.
The East African airline will assume a majority stake in the company, providing regulatory and operational support, while DHL will establish air, ocean and road freight connections between Ethiopia’s main trade hubs and the rest of the world.
According to GebreMariam, the joint venture is expected to provide much-needed freight capacity and logistics infrastructure to the continent.
