Tomorrow will see the launch by deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Bulelani Magwanishe, of one of the first Black Industrialists Scheme-funded projects operating in the pulp, paper and furniture sector in Durban.
The “Cloud Nine” tissue brand, produced my Mthembu Tissue, was approved for a grant of over R13 million through the scheme and sources its raw materials from local small black industrialists.
According to Magwanishe, the company has created 103 direct jobs since the start of production and intends to increase this over the next five years.
“The modern technology installed as a result of the support received from the Black Industrialists Scheme has enabled the company to triple production,” he said. “This manufacturing capability has made Mthembu Tissue competitive in relation to modern standards of manufacturing tissue-related products.”
