Yesterday saw the delivery by Maersk Container Industry of over 8 000 new 40 foot high cube standard containers to Hamburg Süd.
These containers form part of a larger container order by Maersk Line, while the container pools of both carriers will be merged soon, according to media reports.
“The joint equipment pool is expected to be in place during the second quarter of 2018,” said Hamburg Süd CEO, Arnt Vespermann. “It will be the largest container fleet in the liner shipping industry serving customers of both carriers, including a pool of more than 350 000 reefer units.”
