The Panama Canal Authority has issued new draught restrictions for Neopanamax vessels ahead of next month’s opening of the expanded Panama Canal.
The maximum allowable draught for vessels transiting the new Neopanamax locks has been set at 12.8 metres tropical fresh water, report online sources.
This is a level significantly below the advertised draught limit of 15.20 metres, but is the result of a drought that has reduced the water level of Gatan Lake.
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) says that the draught limits will be in effect from June 27.
