A rebranded CHC Supply
Chain Management
focused exclusively on
supply chain services
has recorded impressive
growth in turnover over
the past year and plans to
open a transport division
to service its clients in the
near future.
Simon Chalker, CHC
Supply Chain Management
director, told FTW that
since Gerber Goldschmidt
Group had acquired CHC
Resources’ chemical
trading divisions last July
the latter had refocused
entirely on its core business
of growing its existing
supply chain services and
had rebranded as CHC
Supply Chain Management
with a fresh image to
differentiate its vision
in the marketplace. The
company offers supply
chain services, including
container unpacking
and packing services,
at its secure under-roof
warehouses in Durban
(10 000 sqm), Cape Town
(5000 sqm), Johannesburg
(3000 sqm) and Port
Elizabeth which include
food grade facilities, bond
stores and high value cages.
Chalker said the past
year had been successful
for the supply chain
management division
which had doubled
turnover albeit from a low
base.
“Over the last year and
a half there has been quite
a big management change
in the business and the
result has been positive. We
managed to bring on a lot
of new business in 2015,”
he said.
“We managed to regain
some key clients in the
ocean freight groupage
business and we managed
to secure several multinational
clients in our
warehousing side of the
business nationwide,”
Chalker said. Among
these were multi-national
corporations in the FMCG,
clothing, leather and
footware and automotive
sectors, he said.
“We had a very good year
last year and we foresee
a good year ahead. When
the economy is not doing
as well as it should, it
can be a positive for the
LCL groupage business as
importers who may have
brought in full containers
may now only bring in part
loads,” he said.
“There were a lot of
changes in the market at
the beginning of this year
which is positive for our
business. We will continue
to focus on our service,
our relationship with
our clients, our product
offerings and continue to
develop new products in
2016.”
Chalker said the
company was preparing
to open a road transport
division to service clients
but the project was still in
the planning stages and it
was too early to indicate
truck f leet size.
“The first thing we are
going to focus on is putting
a small management team
in place to take control
of the transport division,
container transport, full
truckloads and breakbulk
collections and deliveries,”
he said.
The new division would
focus on local transport
collections and deliveries
although there was a vision
to expand services on the
continent in future, he added.
