BUILDING ON its foundations in the Eastern
Cape, BLL South Africa (BLLSA) has grown
from a one-man business in 2001 to a major
logistics services provider with offices in all the
major centres through its “core competence”
in automotive logistics, says director Shane
Gerber.
The company’s first contract was for an
export programme of one of the original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Shortly
afterwards other business followed with
citrus exports, ship’s agency clients and other
miscellaneous exports, such as scrap metal.
The company also has a joint venture with
NYK Logistics.
“We are very active in the perishable
industry where we perform the logistics and
customs clearing and forwarding for a number
of fruit farmers. Our perishables department
has experienced enormous growth this year
with the acquisition of new clients and a
very good citrus season resulting in dramatic
increases in volume throughput,” says Gerber.
