CAPE Town-based Macro 2000, specialist in
management software for warehousing and cold
storage applications, now has a system up and
running at a third party bulk store in Port Elizabeth.
In this instance, the warehouse acts merely as a
storage and distribution agent for a customer who
sells to various outlets, ranging from manufacturers
who require larger quantities such as one ton bags, to
supermarkets, where the demand will be for smaller
volumes, 1kg and 500g bags.
Macro 2000 marketing manager, Anthea van
Breemen, explains that product arrives in container
loads for storage in the warehouse and is captured on
Macro 2000’s warehouse management software.
Upon receiving a copy of a sales invoice, the
warehouse will pick the larger required stock (one ton
bags) for delivery straight to the customer.
Smaller orders, however, are picked from a full
pallet, automatically replenished once empty, and the
orders packed onto the correct trucks for delivery to
the various delivery zones.
Says Van Breemen: “The Macro 2000 system
gives a complete overview of stock in the warehouse
by product and receipt batch and supplies a full
movement history of all stock that has passed
through the warehouse and to whom and when
delivered, while also producing all documentation
accompanying the delivery.”
She says the delivery zones are also used by
Macro 2000 for calculating the delivery charges
per kilometre, together with storage, other sundry
charges and monthly invoices.
