ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANISATION Greenpeace has launched a campaign against what it calls "toxic ships".
Greenpeace claims that toxic waste is being exported illegally to countries like China, India, Bangladesh and Turkey in ships bound for the breaker's yard.
The latest incident reported by Greenpeace is that of the French ship Sea Beirut, which has been turned back from Turkey by the Turkish Minister of Environment, Fevzi Aytekin.
According to Greenpeace spokesperson Matilda Bradshaw, the vessel was illegally exported from France to Turkey to be scrapped at Aliaga - what she describes as "one of Turkey's notorious ship breaking yards"
