Amendments to the Customs and Excise Act - 18 May 2001
The rates of duty on maize (corn) i.e. seed and other, classifiable under tariff subheadings 1005.10 and 1005.90 respective have been increased from 6.7c/kg to 13.74c/kg. The rate of duty on maize (corn) flour, classifiable under tariff subheading 1102.20, has been increased from 10.1c/kg to 20.61c/kg. The increase is in the rate of duty is in respect of the general rate, European Union (EU) rate, and the South African Development Community (SADC) rate.
Although it might seem contrary to the EU/South Africa Trade Development and Cooperation Agreement (ÔAgreementÕ) that the rate of duty can be increased, it should be noted that these products are classifiable in Annex VI, list 4 of the Agreement and subject to periodic review during the course of the Agreement.
Extension of Provisional Anti-dumping duty - 11 May 2001
The provisional payment in relation to anti-dumping duty on bed-linen, imported from or originating in Malawi and Pakistan, imposed under Government notice No. R.1120 dated 10 November 2000 has been
extended to 30 May 2001. The tariff subheadings in question are: 6302.21, 6302.22, 6302.29, 6302.31, 6302.32 and 6302.39.
