Record truck overload

GAUTENG TRAFFIC officer Willem Els has an eye for overloaded vehicles. He has pulled a number of them off the roads and ticketed them. But the truck labouring its way up the M1 North looked more than suspicious to his experienced eye last week.
Els was correct. It was the heaviest he had come across. The truck was overloaded by a whopping 52 800kg!
This truck's weight represented that of 15 normal-sized trucks on a national road, and 50 trucks on a provincial road, according
to CSIR spokesman Paul Nordengen. The overload was equivalent to that of the mass of nine full-grown African elephants!
This truck ranks in the top five record overloads.
