ZANDILE JAKAVULA waves aside the thought of having to retrench 27 000 workers when the new plans for the operation of Spoornet are finally in place.
It isn't a matter of getting rid of people merely to save money, he says. Yes, I expect there will be a thinning out of resources, but don't let's speculate at this stage on as many as 27 000.
No one who is needed in a job can be pushed out for the sake of making the financial situation look better. Instead we must transform the entire business process.
We need a better way to deal with pricing structures. We need our marketing and sales people to be the best. Spoornet is not special in this respect. It is no different to any other business. The duty of the workers is to know their job and be committed to it. We need to get all of them to walk in the same direction. Then we will have harmony and success.
