THERE'S STRONG interest from Sweden in setting up a transport broking hub in South Africa as a springboard into the rest of the region.
In South Africa last week on a fact-finding mission for HIFAB International and Swedish International Development Aid (SIDA) was Christer Moller of Gothenburg-based shipbroking company Mel Ship.
SIDA is set to increase its aid programme to Zambia and recognises that South Africa could play a vital role in moving goods to its northern neighbour.
Moller, whose involvement with South Africa dates back to 1976 when he was Rennies' Swedish agent for nine years, is positive about the potential for investment in the country.
Mel Ship, which is part of the Swedish Conmel group of companies, is a major player in the Russian market.
It has set up an office in Estonia, which it believes is a highly efficient hub into the region, and is keen to help SA shippers with advice and information on this new and developing market.
If you get in touch with your transport company before you seal the deal, you can save yourself a lot of problems later, is the advice which Moller has for any aspirant exporters to this region.
