VOICES HAVE been raised regarding the costs to poorer countries of the July 1 implementation of the International Ship and Port Security regulations.
According to a recent New York Times report, the costly security measures imposed by the US are hitting developing nations hard.
While some ports have signalled their intention to pass on the costs by way of surcharges, there has been no indication that SA ports will follow this course.
