Zimbabwe's largest ferrochrome producer, Zimasco – a unit of China's Sinosteel Corporation – has received its export licence.
According to the state-owned newspaper, The Herald, the company secured the licence after meeting the Zimbabwean government’s controversial condition to cede 50% of its chrome claims to the state.
The government announced last year that it would only issue chrome ore export licences on condition that big ferrochrome miners Zimasco and Zim Alloys cede some of their underutilised mining claims.
Production is set to start in August this year.
