ALAN PEAT SOUTHERN AFRICA’S woodworking industry will be one of the beneficiaries of the R178-million that has been committed to the European Union (EU)-Southern African Development Community (SADC) investment promotion programme (ESIPP). And interaction between Southern African and European woodworking companies is the theme for Woodworking 2007, a two-day networking session due to be held on September 13-14 in Johannesburg. This joint-initiative between the Euro Info Centre in Sweden and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Johannesburg will allow local companies to meet potential business partners from countries such as Germany, France, Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium, Greece, Sweden, Zambia, Swaziland, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. SA is steadily increasing its world export of wood products, with doors and frames being shipped out in large quantities. Exports now total about R540-million a year.
