Following the collapse of a wall, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has issued assurances that the expansion project is moving ahead as planned and is due to be inaugurated on June 26 this year.
Maritime news site, Port Technology, reported that a wall had collapsed yesterday (Tuesday) in the southern section of the Miraflores Locks of the Canal but quoted the ACP as saying that there was a “steady pace of repair” under way.
The repairs are to be completed within five weeks.
"All the canal's operations are continuing in an absolutely normal way,” the ACP said.
