Two crew members have died in a fire that occurred on the 2 174 TEU vessel, Stride, while it was moored at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal in the Port of Houston.
The Port Houston Fire Department responded to the incident, and an injured crew member was evacuated by helicopter to the Texas Medical Centre.
The Port of Houston has confirmed that there were no other injuries.
It’s also reported that the fire has been extinguished with no threat to the surrounding community.
The Port Houston Fire Department will monitor the vessel for at least 24 hours.
The Harris County Fire Marshall and Medical Examiners, along with the US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board, are conducting investigations at the scene.
The Panama-flagged ship, built in 1997, is managed by Greek company Danaos Corporation and is currently under a time charter deal with Cosco Shipping Lines. Source: Asia Shipping Media.
