Sub-Saharan countries and their respective exporting communities will soon learn what was discussed at yesterday’s meeting in Washington by the United States International Trade Commission (USITC).
The meeting followed a recent fact-finding mission to sub-Sahara and will expectedly shed more light on the US administration’s stance about the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa).
A USITC notification made particular mention of “recent trends and developments”.
It is hoped though that greater clarity will be forthcoming considering persistent uncertainties about Agoa.
Given ongoing difficulties that countries like Zambia have to benefit from Agoa through American market penetration, Lesotho chose today’s USITC meeting as an opportune time to “actively support efforts to attract foreign investment to take full advantage of Agoa,” said its ambassador to Washington, Gabriel Sankatana Maja.
