A team of Transnet investigators and SAPS Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) officers from Gauteng and Limpopo have arrested a manager from Transnet Engineering on allegations of corruption.
The manager was arrested following a joint operation when a bribe of R150 000 was solicited from one of Transnet’s suppliers in exchange for Transnet assets valued at R1 million on September 3.
The manager appeared in court on corruption charges and was granted bail of R5 000 on September 4.
Transnet said in a statement that it welcomed the dedication of its internal investigation team and officers from Limpopo and Gauteng DPCI.
“Transnet would also like to extend its gratitude to the supplier for their cooperation and assistance. Transnet is committed to rooting out all forms of criminality,” the state-owned entity said.
