New agency agreement signed JOHANNESBURG-BASED forwarders TCF-Spedag have entered into an agency agreement with German forwarder Overbruck Spedition.
This fits perfectly with our objective to increase growth in air and seafreight forwarding and clearing out of Germany, Spedag's Heinz Schaeppi told FTW.
Spedag's national network includes branches in Johannesburg, Sebenza, Jan Smuts, Durban and Cape Town.
Overbruck Spedition is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Axel Springer Verlag, which employs some 350 staff and achieves an annual turnover of around DM 300 million.
Given Overbruck's geographic spread throughout Germany, we expect to see rapid growth in this market, says Schaeppi.
Our group's growth has been somewhat hindered by the lack of a single partner for both air and seafreight. Despite the fluctuating rand and its impact on imports, Spedag achieved real growth in airfreight and clearing during 1996, he said. These are now the dominant drivers with major profit contributions.
