Speed Services launches new unit THE MOVE into a business-to-business express product by Speed Services, the Post Office's courier business, follows an attractive three year growth pattern.
It has recently launched its new unit, Parcelplus - The Business Connection is how it is described - after its previous products pulled it from its birth in 1993 to the claim of being the country's third biggest courier company by 1996.
In its original format, Speed Services mainly served the business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer markets. But, said a spokesman, we then felt we were in a position to crystallise our leadership role by also serving the business-to-business market. This it has done with Parcelplus, a service which it says offers the customer delivery options to suit his needs and budget.
The service options are 24- to 48-hour delivery between the main national centres - with four alternative channels: Business-to-business; business-to-depot; depot-to-business; and depot-to- depot.
These are backed by the network of 1 500 Post Offices around the country - each of which acts as a Parcelplus service point. There is also an insurance option.
Like the other majors in the national and international courier/express market, Speed Services backs each of its products with a sophisticated track-and-trace system. This - via the 24-hours-a- day, toll-free hotline (0800 023 133) - provides a customer with the immediate whereabouts of a specific parcel or consignment.
Within the massive infrastrucure of the Post Office, the Speed Services products are all dedicated business units. Dedicated personnel, a dedicated vehicle fleet, and a dedicated fleet of four jet aircraft, deliver countrywide and to the BLNS region - Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.
