The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (Tazara) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with train manufacturer Bombardier Transportation to explore investment cooperation possibilities.
A statement by the rail authority noted that the signing of the MoU was aimed towards boosting the haulage capacity on the railway.
“Bombardier Transportation has offered a preliminary turnkey solution for Tazara to increase efficiency and capacity in the areas of track, rolling stock, signalling and telecommunications,” said Tazara’s head of public relations, Conrad Simuchile.
Following the signing, a joint team will undertake a feasibility study which will define and agree on the scope of the partnership, after which Bombardier will submit a technical and financial proposal to Tazara for consideration.
