New York and New Jersey’s cargo terminals shut down on Friday (January 29) after thousands of longshoremen walked off the job and ceased work for no given reasons.
“The longshoremen had not informed management of the illegal walkout – we don't even know why," Beverly Fedorko, a spokeswoman for the New York Shipping Association was quoted by Port Technology as saying.
After emergency negotiations with the port’s leading shipping association, the longshoremen began returning to work, with full operations resuming yesterday (February 1), reports the Wall Street Journal.
