THE well-known and highly respected Ronnie Holtshausen leaves the service of the Port of Durban today (31 August) although he will not be lost to the industry. On Monday he takes up the more senior post of commercial manager with SA Port Operations, based at head office in Durban.
He will report directly to the chief executive Tau Morwe. Holtshausen has been marketing manager at the port for the past seven years, which he describes as having been some of the best in his career so far. During that period he played a leading role in numerous developments and changes in the port and says he regards the car terminal project, in which he played a pivotal role, as the highlight.
The car terminal, which quickly became one of the port's most successful operations, came about in the face of a difficult environment and much pessimism.
Another project in which he continues to play a major role has been the ongoing container terminal expansion project.
Rob Skinner, Key Account Manager, Port Authority, has been appointed acting marketing manager of the Port of Durban with immediate effect.
