GABORONE– Swakop Uranium has announced that production at its Husab mine in Namibia will commence in late October.
Local media reports said the planned operationalisation of the mine had been disclosed by company chief executive officer, Zheng Keping, when he paid a courtesy call on vice-president Nickey Iyambo in Windhoek this week..
Keping said once it started production, the Husab mine would make Namibia the third biggest producer of uranium in the world. The company has said it will produce up to 15 million tonnes of uranium per annum.
Production would be gradually increased to reach the installed capacity of 50 million tonnes of ore per annum.
