Prefabricated units continue to offer the most viable solution to Botswana’s diamond mine industry.
According to Speedspace director Barron Charsley, the company recently completed an interesting project at Karowe Diamond mine situated just outside Lethlakane in Botswana. Speedspace specialises in providing long- or shortterm affordable, practical and efficient on-site space management solutions.
“The scope of work included the design, manufacture, delivery and installation of office and ablution spaces totalling 821sqm utilising the versatile Ufudu cabin product as well as conventional parkhome buildings,” he said. “The final solution provided the client with new recreation and ablution facilities for diamond sorting staff, access facilities including a new gate house, permit office, induction centre as well as the security manager's offices.”
According to Charsley, while most of the units provided by Speedspace were reasonably standard designs, the high-tech surveillance centre with specially designed over-height scanning areas provided some new challenges for their design team.
“We were, however, able to utilise resources from both Speedspace South Africa and Speedspace Botswana to ensure that the project was completed to the client’s satisfaction,” he said, delivering the bespoke solutions required.
