The supply of high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) to the Port of Durban had dried up, Cockett Marine Oil confirmed earlier today.
This comes after the supply of both types of bunker fuel, HSFO and very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO), became constrained after the start of the lockdown more than two weeks ago.
An industry official said HSFO had been "sold out due to the lockdown".
Asked to eloborate, FTW Online was told "it's not sure what's happening".
News of Durban running out of HSFO follows a reasonable amount of price volatility.
Due to the HSFO supply shortage, Cockett could also not provide a current price.
VLSFO is also only available in limited quantity.
Its trading price confirmed at noon today is $299.
