THERE'S A new face due behind the desk of Lufthansa Cargo's regional sales director for Southern and Western Africa.
Effective September, Peter Ullmayer - formerly vice president of the cargo carrier in Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America - takes over the role from previous incumbent Dr Ulrich Ogiermann.
Ullmayer joined Lufthansa cargo in Frankfurt in 1974 - starting his career in the handling/documentation and sales department. After a short spell in the Cologne head office - responsible for handling matters worldwide - he returned to Frankfurt and joined route management, where he was in charge of the USA west coast. In 1989, he became g.m. for cargo, stationed in Miami, from where he was promoted to vice- president in 1994.
Outside his business world, Ullmayer is married, and father to a six year old daughter. On the sporting front, he is a keen tennis player.
The man he replaces, Ulrich Ogiermann, leaves behind fond memories of his stay in SA, he told FTW as he departs these shores to join Luxembourg-based cargo carrier, Cargolux, as global sales and marketing manager.
He also leaves behind an excellent working relationship with the local airfreight industry, having successfully seen Lufthansa Cargo through its gestation period as a separate company in the airline group, and the introduction of its new time-definite (td) air cargo system .
But, at the combined welcome/farewell function, Ogiermann told FTW that he intends to maintain his strong ties with the Southern African market, and will be - he hopes - a frequent visitor wearing his new Cargolux hat.
