Zimbabwe's Parliament has bowed to government pressure and threats and has reluctantly agreed to ratify R400 million in foreign loans for Harare's new airport. MPs gave their assent this week, but said they were extremely unhappy with the way the government had steamrollered them into agreeing.
It is understood the ruling ZANU(PF) party, which holds almost all the seats in Parliament, said they would lose their seats in the next election if they continued to oppose the loans. The airport will probably be finished in five years time.
