WITH SA having re-joined the global village, business practices are also adjusting to meet the growing demand for products and services, according to Yeagam Reddy, m.d. of the recently established NVOCC, Triple 8.
Shipping is taking on a new dimension, he said. And, with companies concentrating on their core businesses, we are no longer just transporters - we are the supply chain management arms of these companies.
Partnerships are the key to on-time deliveries, Reddy added, and poor service levels are just not acceptable.
Those who cannot fulfil these high levels of expectation will fail, he said.
To effectively meet this need, Triple 8 is currently refining its whole information technology (IT) set-up, according to Reddy.
The way we see it, he told FTW, is that - if you intend to achieve these expectations - the key is to be totally integrated with your clients and service suppliers. And this system has to be designed to be cost-effective.
Triple 8 has set a target of March next year for the completion of phase one of this IT system - with final delivery of software to clients and suppliers before year-end 2001.
Being an SMME (small and medium sized enterprises) company, said Reddy, we are excited about the capability this will give Triple 8.
There is great potential for companies like ourselves to compete with the giants of the industry.
Full details of Triple 888's electronic solutions will be revealed early in the new year.
