The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) has announced the start of regulation for geysers effective immediately as a way to promote energy efficiency.
According to the NRCS, geysers account for up to 39% of household electricity bills and the regulation of geysers is aimed at decreasing the energy demand and bringing relief to consumers who are currently feeling the effects of the VAT increase and petrol hikes while facing the return of load shedding.
To ensure effective regulation, NRCS has developed the VC Enforcement Plan which includes inspections, stakeholder engagements, consumer awareness and surprise raids on various business premises.
The authority has urged businesses to apply for Letters of Authority to avoid being subjected to the sanctioning process where their products are confiscated, destroyed and the necessary penalties imposed.
