Twelve farms in Vanwyksvlei in the Northern Cape have been closed due to the ongoing drought in the province.
Agri Northern Cape has reported that 70% of the province has seen the worst drought in 50 years, resulting in the deaths of livestock and wildlife.
“A large part of this area is experiencing the worst drought in living memory," said Agri Northern Cape president, Nicol Jansen.
According to the organisation, the government has set R30 million aside for drought relief, with farms getting donations of their own.
However, this is not enough to sustain the province’s herds.
