Berthing productivity and vessel turnarounds at the Port of Onne in eastern Nigeria are set to substantially improve after West African Container Terminal (Wact) celebrated the commissioning of two new Liebherr mobile cranes.
According to Wact officials, the cranes will help to sustain and improve the annual capacity at the port, one of Nigeria’s two most frequented harbours linked to the country’s gas and petroleum industry, which was recently measured at a capacity of 314 000 TEUs.
A British cargo portal reported that volume growth at Onne “has been in the double digits for the last two and a half years and the new cranes will enable the port to manage the growth while improving berth productivity and vessel turnaround times”.
Wact also recently added 10 new terminal tractors and two reach stackers to its Onne facility situated on the Bonny River estuary south of Port Harcourt.
