A section of the new road being constructed between Port Alfred and the Great Fish River in the Eastern Cape, the R72/3, has been completed according to the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral).
“Now that this section is complete, traffic will be diverted to completed sections of the road before the December recess,” said Sanral southern region manager Mbulelo Peterson. “Work on a portion of the old road will then commence in early January next year.”
While the completed section – from Kleinmond to the Great Fish River – will be open to traffic this December, Sanral has warned motorists to exercise caution when driving on the road as construction will still take place in close proximity to the road.
Additionally, Peterson noted that work on the new storm water system was currently in progress between Atherstone Street to Gluckman Drive and the resurfacing of the new roadway would begin in the first quarter of 2018.
