Industry has welcomed the development of the new EN6 main highway linking Beira with Machipanda – a move they believe will further strengthen the corridor.According to logistics experts, improved road conditions have also led to a modal shift, while lead times have reduced significantly and the corridor is perceived as much safer.“We have also seen various different commodities being moved throughout the Beira Corridor which is resulting in a sound balance between both imports and exports,” said Chris van Tonder, general manager Beira at J&J Africa Group. “This means it has developed from just servicing the mining and agricultural sectors to the secondary sectors as well.”He said the ongoing growth on the Beira Corridor had encouraged the company to increase its footprint and it was currently in the process of upgrading facilities.
