The City of Cape Town’s portfolio manager for Integrated Transport, Gershwin Fortune, was appointed as acting commissioner for the Transport and Urban Development Authority (TDA) today.
“Mr Fortune has 19 years’ relevant work experience which includes predominantly local government, and to a lesser extent international experience as an urban transport specialist for the World Bank,” said MMC for Transport and Urban Development, councillor Brett Herron.
Fortune will be taking over from the recently suspended Melissa Whitehead who was accused of allegedly covering up tender irregularities.
Whitehead now faces a disciplinary enquiry for allegedly manipulating tenders for MyCiTi buses and interfering in the tender process for the Foreshore Freeway Project.
Herron noted that the TDA would be spearheading a number of projects critical to the spatial transformation of the city and that Fortune would be focusing on these projects in the coming months.
