Privately owned regional airline, Airlink, has restored flights to Mozambique from South Africa. According to Airlink chief executive officer, Rodger Foster, a phased approach has been taken with the flights between Johannesburg and Maputo starting operations earlier in October operating on Wednesday and Fridays. Flights between Johannesburg and Pemba, Vilanculos and Beira are being introduced in the coming weeks, he said. This follows the lifting of travel restrictions that curtailed travel between the neighbouring countries following the outbreak of Covid-19.Foster said providing seamless connectivity between South Africa and Mozambique was a top priority for the airline. The services also provide travellers and cargo with connectivity with Airlink’s new services linking Johannesburg with Cape Town and Durban. Connections are also available to Airlink’s other South African destinations and to key destinations throughout the SADC region. The Johannesburg-Pemba flight commences on October 28 operating on Wednesdays; the Johannesburg-Vilanculos flight will start on November 5 operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while the Johannesburg -Beira route will become operational on Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 10. Both Mozambican and South African travel regulations will apply.
