First rice shipment handled at Walvis KEVIN MAYHEW IN A milestone development, the Port of Walvis Bay has handled its first major breakbulk cargo shipment destined for Zambia. A vessel carrying 3000 tonnes of rice arrived from Vietnam earlier this month and the cargo was offloaded in two days. With its partners, the Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG), Namport has been aggressively marketing the port as a gateway to the landlocked country, particularly since the opening of the bridge at Katima Mulilo and Sesheke in April. The WBCG recently set up an office in Zambia to support the marketing drive.
