Freight News has learned that the N3 between Harrismith and Durban remains closed because of the unrest that has plunged KwaZulu-Natal into anarchy.
It is advised that the R74 via Oliviershoek Pass be used to gain access to areas in the Drakensberg heading into the Midlands.
People are warned though to proceed with extreme caution as the situation in eThekwini is still extremely volatile.
Elsewhere along the violence-plagued main highway, the N3 Toll Route is only open to traffic between Harrismith in the Free State and Heidelberg in Gauteng, the Transit Assistance Bureau has reported.
“The N3 Toll Concession will immediately issue public notifications when the above status quo changes.
“Road users can report problems or obtain assistance from the 24-hour N3 helpline on 0800 63 43 57 or stay informed by following @N3Route on Twitter.”
