The official launch of the Bollore Ports’ container terminal extension at the Port of Freetown was held last Friday (October 14).
This major project for Sierra Leone is designed to enhance the potential of the country’s primary port.
It involves the construction of a 270-metre extension to the existing 707m quay, with a draught of 13m and a landside working area of 3.5 hectares. Added to that, a power plant dedicated to the terminal will be built.
Two gantry cranes will be set up, significantly improving the potential productivity of the Port of Freetown.
The new dock will accommodate larger vessels up to 6 000 TEU capacity, and the total capacity of the container terminal will be increased to 750 000 TEUs from the previous 90 000.
