At least 560-kilometres of railways in Benguela province are almost finished being rehabilitated and modernised, said the general director of railway company CFB, Daniel Quipaxe.
According to the official, the rehabilitation works of the CFB were due to be completed this month.
The rehabilitation and modernisation of the CFB, he said, will allow the movement of 20-million tonnes of cargo and four million passengers per year.
When fully operational, the CFB, said Quipaxe, will create 6 000 jobs in several sectors.
The project is currently aimed at the flow of ore from countries such as Zambia, DR Congo and Zimbabwe, and other Southern African Development Community (SADC) states.
The Benguela railways were created in 1903 as a joint venture between Portugal, Belgium and England.
