Major container shipping line APL reduced its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by a record 48% in 2016 compared to 2009.
This was verified by maritime classification society, Lloyd’s Register Group, and marked the carrier’s seventh consecutive year of emission improvements.
“APL is pleased to register our best carbon reduction performance as yet, improving our fleet emission level by about 3%, versus our reduction in 2015,” said APL CEO, Nicolas Sartini.
Sartini added that APL’s vessel performance management and maintenance strategy were pivotal in ensuring that operations were efficient and green. This, together with the deployment of a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly fleet of vessels, contributed to the lowered CO2 emissions annually.
APL aims to reduce its CO2 emissions per container transported by 30% between 2015 and 2025.
