Maersk Line will impose a general rate increase (GRI) on shipments from India to ports in West Africa, reports The Journal of Commerce.
The proposed increase, starting April 1, will be US$100 per 20-foot container and US$150 per 40-foot container.
“While we are continuously endeavoring toward serving customers to the best of our capabilities, prevailing rates are proving to be difficult to sustain, especially in the current market scenario,” Maersk said.
The move follows a US$150 per TEU and US$250 per FEU hike the world’s largest liner operator implemented on the same trade routes as of March 1.
