A new fully certified cold storage facility is planned for Lusaka by the Deep Catch Group, which has commercial cold stores in Namibia and South Africa. Currently these facilities have the capacity to handle 22 000 pallets of frozen cargo throughout the region. According to operations manager Robert Milligan, the Lusaka cold store will enable the expansion of the group’s cold chain footprint into the SADC region. It will provide the essential logistics required to support affordable protein imports, as well as in-country movement of frozen foodstuffs. Construction of the facility at the York Development Park off Kafue Road in Lusaka is due to start later this year. The estimated completion date of the Lusaka Commercial Cold Store is September 2022. The Seapride Foods Division of the Deep Catch Group opened in Zambia in 2018. Its footprint extends from Namibia to Zimbabwe, Zambia and, most recently, Kasane in the Botswana Delta. “We currently operate from temporary premises opposite the Zamefa offices off Kafue Road in Lusaka, pending the move to the York Development property under construction. “Seapride Foods Zambia distributes a full basket of products to the hospitality, catering and retail markets in Lusaka, Livingstone and the Copperbelt. “Our vision is to become the preferred distributor throughout Zambia and beyond. “We are committed to providing top quality products, together with excellent service,” says Milligan.Mpulungu will be upgraded into a 4th generation port that features upgraded logistics functions, production and processing.“Lake Tanganyika.
