The Grindrod Limited (Grindrod) board has begun the process of appointing a new CEO following the announcement that Alan Olivier will step down on July 31 after 10 years at the helm, taking early retirement to “pursue personal interests”.
Mike Hankinson, independent non-executive chairman of Grindrod, said that Olivier would be consulting to the shipping division on an ad hoc basis.
The three Grindrod divisions will continue to be managed by Bongiwe Ntuli (freight services), Martyn Wade (shipping) and David Polkinghorne (financial services).
Hankinson will act as executive chairman in the transitional phase, with Andrew Waller, group financial director, supporting him. Nkululeko Sowazi will be the lead independent non-executive director of the board.
