Using the Ctrack Transport and Freight Index as an indicator, my wish for South Africa is to again have the wind at our backs, where we can compete without extreme limitation factors to make our country successful. I am amazed at what South Africans have achieved with the sheer number of challenges we face from day to day. With record-breaking hours of load-shedding, companies buckle under the inability to produce at capacity, the cost of lost production, reduced productivity, the cost of providing alternatives and reduced margins. As ref lected in the Ctrack Transport and Freight Index, freight has continued to surprise, with continued growth despite all these challenges, but I fear that is not sustainable indefinitely. The ongoing pressures mean businesses in these segments face unknown risk levels and shrinking profit margins. The implementation of a bespoke f leet management system has been proven to mitigate risk, manage costs better, and ensure peace of mind in a turbulent environment. If government can address and align its policies for business growth, this will allow private companies to get back to business, and we will get our economy back to previous growth levels again.
