In a protest against what it called “poor management” at the financially-embattled national carrier Kenya Airways, the Kenyan pilots’ union Kalpa has called for an indefinite strike from next Tuesday (October 18).
It claimed it had “no confidence in the airline’s recovery” and said the strike will continue until there was what it termed “a comprehensive change of guard” at Kenya Airways.
Despite a cost-cutting exercise, the airline, in which Air France KLM has a 27% stake, said last month that it still needed the equivalent of almost R9.9 billion and was looking to foreign institutional investors to raise the cash.
There was no response to the strike news from Kenya Airways.
